Miscellaneous News → Attached is a graphic from Friday’s website that shows the performance of Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 solar facility. Since startup of the Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 3 Solar project, the total energy had a beneficial purpose of; o Generating enough energy to be equivalent to 24,209 60-watt light bulbs; or o 3,045 tons of carbon dioxide were reduced from going into the atmosphere, which is also equivalent to planting 76,343 trees; or o The Total energy generated equals a savings of 343,546 gallons of gasoline. TRIP News  Construction activities are expected to begin next week on the State Route 178/Morning Drive Interchange. The contractor is scheduled to begin clearing and grubbing operations on the south side of State Route 178, starting near Canteria Drive working west towards Morning Drive, on Monday, September 16, 2013. The contractor also plans to begin placing concrete barrier rail near the intersection of State Route 178 and Canteria Drive late next week. The contractor and the construction management firm are in the process of setting up field offices on Panorama Drive, east of Morning Drive. Department of Recreation and Parks Date: September 13, 2013 To: Alan Tandy, City Manager From: Dianne Hoover, Director of Recreation & Parks Subject: August 2013 Monthly Report Total monthly attendance for all programs, reservations and volunteers combined for the month of August totaled 65,428 as compared to last year’s total of 60,891. ADMINISTRATION: o State Farm Sports Village – Grand opening was held August 23, 2013. o Bicycle Transportation Plan – Community workshop was held on September 4, 2013. Adoption is scheduled for late 2013. o Patriots Park Shade Structure Project – Construction began September 4, 2013. o Challenger and Wilderness Park Playground Rehabilitation Project – Request for fee proposal accepted by Richard Meyer on July 30, 2013. Authorization letter was sent August 15, 2013. o Wayside and MLK Park Tennis Courts Rehabilitation Project – Bids were opened on June 27, 2013. Public Works is working with the contractor on a start date for the rehabilitation of both tennis courts. o Park Land Dedication Tract 6520 and 7226 – Agreement for dedication of 3.2 acres on the south side of E. Berkshire Road and S. Union Avenue has been signed and submitted to Clerks Office. o Special Event Reservations: o August 14th – Yokuts Park, SEIU/UFW Immigration Awareness – 2,100 Guests o August 23rd – Jastro Park, Clinica Sierra Vista Walk – 100 Guests Total Attendance: 16,925– Reservations/Special Events Aquatics/McMurtrey Aquatic Center: o Total attendance for Aquatics had a slight increase 18,102 compared to August 2012 of 17,964. This was due to an increase in the number of swim lessons and programs offered this year. Monthly attendance at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center was 12,997 compared to last year’s 13,894. This was a 6.5% decrease due to the number of participants in Recreational Swim We enhance the quality of life through a variety of programs, parks, and partnerships. DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS AUGUST MONTHLY REPORT PAGE TWO • 100 Mile Club: o The 100 mile lap swim club is currently made up of 411 active members that swam 13,394 miles this month. The club has swum a combined total of 119,716 miles. One year ago the club had 317 active members and swum a total of 104,232 miles! • Family Fun Night: o Kaiser Permanente sponsored the Family Fun Night that was held on Friday, August 2nd at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The theme was “Under the Sea” with photo opportunities with Longfellow the Whale and a Mermaid, different games, health and wellness booths, and raffle prizes. There were 556 people attending this event and everyone enjoyed the slides, diving boards, and booths. Jefferson Pool: • Total Attendance at Jefferson Pool for the month of August was 851. Last year’s total attendance for August was 953. This slight decrease is due to the number of people attending Recreational Swim. The pool closed for the summer on August 9th. Swim Lessons Recreational Swim Training Total Attendance: 300 527 24 851 Silver Creek Pool: • Total Attendance at Silver Creek Pool for the month of August was 3,775. Last year’s total attendance for August was 2,485. This increase is due to added numbers in our Swim Lessons and Recreational Swim. The pool closed for summer programming on August 16th. Last year’s total attendance for August was 272. This increase is due to a boost in attendance in our Swim Lessons and Recreational Swim. The pool closed on August 9th. Swim Lessons Camp Lessons Rec. Swim Camp Rec. Swim Training Total Attendance: 270 0 191 0 18 479 • Donation/Volunteer Total: o $2,507.45 Other Aquatic Highlights: o Some of the activities currently taking place in August at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center include: Lap Swimming Diving Water Walking 100 Mile Club SCUBA Aqua Conditioning Deep Water Intervals Lifeguard In-service Pool Parties Aqua Zumba Swim Lessons Recreational Swim • Total Attendance: 18,102 ATHLETICS: o Adult, Youth, Fitness and Adaptive Programs total attendance for the month of August was 26,492. Monthly attendance increased by 17% as compared to same time last year. The increase in attendance is attributed to the growth of the City’s Softball League. Athletic Programming: Adult Softball • The Summer League completed the season on September 3rd. • The League reached a record of 192 teams; last summer’s record was 173 teams. • The League consisted of 32 Divisions (19 Men’s & 13 Coed) with six teams in each division. Softball Tournaments • Mesa Marin Sports Complex hosted the ASA Western Nationals Girls U-18 Fast Pitch Tournament July 31st through August 2nd. Sixteen teams participated in the tournament. • Mesa Marin also hosted a National Softball Association (NSA) Youth Fast Pitch Tournament on August 24th & 25th. Twenty-four teams participated in the tournament. We enhance the quality of life through a variety of programs, parks, and partnerships. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. COMMUNITY CENTER: o Overall attendance for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center was 2,579 Attendance decreased by 1% from last August. Movies in the Park o Movies in August were: August 2nd, at Siemon Park – 150 in attendance August 9th, at Jastro Park - 300 in attendance • Donation/Volunteer Total: o $940.00 Total Attendance: 2,579 SILVER CREEK COMMUNITY CENTER/SAUNDERS MULTI-USE FACILITY: Silver Creek Community Center Total attendance for Silver Creek Community Center was 1004 as compared to last year of 1,452. o There were five (5) rentals for the month of August - $1200 in revenue and 250 in attendance. After School Fun • Attendance: Weekly Average: 67 Monthly: 335 Revenue: $1,493 Saunders Recreational Facility o Total overall attendance for the Saunders Recreational Facility was 326. There was zero (0) rentals for the Saunders Recreational Facility for the month of August. o Hockey Program o Registered: 47 Participants Total Attendance: 106 o Soccer Program o Registered: 10 Teams Total Attendance: 220 • Total Attendance for Silver Creek & Saunders Recreational Facility : 1,330 We enhance the quality of life through a variety of programs, parks, and partnerships. DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS AUGUST MONTHLY REPORT PAGE FIVE PARKS: TPRW o Trenching – For power to the restroom trailers and light poles, Electricians installed first power box on August 5th near base of Amphitheatre hill fence line. o Cement Trash Can – relocated one cement trash can holder, the new location is near South side of the Eastern lake. City Corporation Yard o Risk Management Jena Covey and Safety Representative Joe at Building A held a Hazard Evaluation and Inspection Safety Training on August 20th. They reviewed potential safety hazards within our offices and Corporation Yard chemical shed. Coffee Median o Median South of Rosedale Hwy prepped for installation of sod by Kern Turf. Mark Lundy to send quote confirmation. Highway 178/Solera o On August 17th nine members from Area 2 staff completed a mile long trimming project. Sister Cities Phase A o Completed second maintenance period walk-through on August 12th. Also during this time the final walk-through for the Q Street medians and planters in the sidewalk was completed. Sports Village Phase I & II o Phase I Trimmed by Area 4 Staff. o Grand opening of Phase II was held on August 23rd. o Seven (7) new bollards were made and installed by craftworkers at all driveway approaches in front of restroom building. Old River Road o Crews worked overtime on a large trimming project which included the East Old River Road from: o August 10th - the railroad tracks to Millikan Way. o August 17th - between Millikan Way to Campus Park Drive. o August 24th - Campus Park Drive to Thoreau Avenue District Blvd. o On August 17th crews worked overtime on a large trimming project which included the South side of District Blvd. from Copley Ln to Calder Ln. Campus Park Drive o August 24th - Crews worked overtime on a large trimming project which included the South side of Campus Park Drive from Buena Vista Road to Evening Star Way. o August 31st – Crews worked overtime on a large trimming project which included the South side of Campus Park Drive from Evening Star Way to Mountain Vista Drive. Haggin Oaks Park o On August 30th two “Doggie Bag” dispensers were installed at the park. We enhance the quality of life through a variety of programs, parks, and partnerships. Mill House o A new mow curb border was installed by craftworkers around new Mill House sign on 8/22/13. Windermere Park o Retrofit and installation of new twist and shout double slide on 8/7/13. This replaces the discontinued double-lightning slide. Tradewinds Park o One (1) oval to round section was replaced on squiggle tube slide and one (1) oval to round section was replaced on spiral tube slide on 8/5/13. Tree Division o The annual tree contractor, Stay Green, has completed trimming at the following locations: o Grand Lakes between Ming and Coram o Deer Peak Drive between Grand Lakes and Buena Vista o Deer Peak Park o Clay Patrick Farr Drive between Granite Falls and Hageman o Work has begun on Riverlakes Drive between Hageman and Olive Wall Repairs • The following wall locations were damaged due to accidents and are currently in the process of being asses for repair: o SEC Akers Rd and Bridgewater Way o NWC Akers Rd and Rio Viejo o 10800 Block of White Ln. o Stockdale Hwy & Cherry Hills o 6200 Block of Wible Rd. o 3700 Block of Clay Patrick Farr o 7800 Block of Ming Ave. o Tahitian Pearl & Ashe Rd. o 5600 Block of Sandstone & Mountain Ridge o White Ln & Clove o 5400 Block of Ashe Rd. o 7100 Block of North Halfmoon o 2200 Block of Gosford Rd.
