HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/20/2013 OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM September 20, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager RS/al SUBJECT: General Information Miscellaneous News  The latest sales tax data is in, which reflects the activity during the months of April, May and June of 2013. The figures show a +1.02% increase when comparing this quarter with the same quarter last year. Additionally, when the most recent four quarters are compared with the prior four quarters, the increase is +7.18%. The detail results by industry type are not available at this time.  The mobile restroom trailers that we purchased and were paid for by AEG as part of the capital contribution they contractually committed to have been delivered. The units will serve a very practical use, as they can be set up at the Amphitheatre for events there, as well as other locations when needed for City functions.  There was a very positive newspaper article last weekend about some of the individuals from the Bakersfield Homeless Center, who will begin working at the City Animal Shelter next month. All of the people who agreed to be interviewed were excitedly looking forward to their new jobs. City staff is confident in the abilities and work ethic of these individuals, because in order to qualify for these positions, they must have already been contractually employed to work in either the City’s greenwaste facility, or on the highway litter crews. We can all rest assured that the animals in their dedicated care will be very well cared for. TRIP News As you are aware, construction on the State Route 178/Morning Drive Interchange project is now underway. Work this week included installation of concrete barriers along the shoulder of the outside eastbound lane of State Route 178 in the vicinity of the Canteria Drive intersection, and the outside westbound and outside eastbound lanes of State Route 178 in the vicinity of the Morning Drive intersection.
