HomeMy WebLinkAbout13_10_03 Suspicious Person and Bag 1800 Block of Oak Street 13-204365 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Michaela Sims Public Information Office 661-326-3803 msims@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release October 3, 2013 Today at approximately 12:16 p.m., Bakersfield Police received a call of a suspicious person placing a suspicious bag in a planter with bushes in the 1800 block of Oak Street. Due to the suspicious behavior of the male, individuals contacted law enforcement to report the activity. Bakersfield Police Officers responded to the area, located the bag and deemed the bag suspicious. The Bomb Squad responded to the scene and after examining the bag, determined there was no threat. The individual who left the bag is described as a White male, in his early 50s, wearing a light blue shirt and black pants. Approximately ten to twelve businesses were evacuated during the incident. Oak Street as well as 19th Street were blocked for approximately two hours during the investigation.
