Have you ever considered assisting your fellow community members in helping make Bakersfield a safer place to live? Are you interested in law enforcement and volunteering with a commitment to service? The Bakersfield Police Department is starting a NEW Citizen Volunteer Unit. Appointment to the Citizen Volunteer Unit will require interested individuals to attend a four week academy. The four week course will introduce volunteers to a variety of police related functions including citizen patrol and clerical assistance within the Department. The academy will require volunteers to attend one night a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for a four week period. Each class will be duplicated in order to assist interested parties with scheduling. Location: Bakersfield Police Department Headquarters, 1601 Truxtun Avenue. The schedule is as follows: Week 1: November 19th or November 21st 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Week 2: December 3rd or December 5th 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Week 3: December 10th or December 12th 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Week 4: December 17th or December 19th 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and attending the academy, please pick up an application at the Bakersfield Police Department Headquarters, located at 1601 Truxtun Avenue in the lobby, or the Westside Police Sub Station, located at 1301 Buena Vista Road.
