Today, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Bakersfield Police Officers were dispatched to the
5200 block of Magic Avenue for a check the welfare of a suicidal subject in the roadway.
When officers arrived, they contacted an adult female in the roadway armed with a
handgun.
A mental health professional was called to the scene.
Officers and a mental health professional spoke with the adult female for approximately
thirty minutes, attempting to get her to disarm herself.
While officers were still attempting to talk to her, the adult female raised the firearm and
pointed it at officers in a threatening manner. Several officers fired at the adult female.
The adult female was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The firearm was located at the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
No officers were injured during the shooting and there were no other injuries reported.
