A RESOLUTION DETERMINING THAT THE
BAKERSFIELD CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTS THE
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT PURSUING THE
AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION
(APWA) ACCREDITATION PROCESS
WHEREAS, the APWA is an internationally recognized organization which exists
to develop and support the people, agencies, and organizations that plan, build,
maintain, and improve our communities; and
WHEREAS, the APWA offers an accreditation process to promote excellence
in the operation and management of a Public Works agency. Accreditation is
important to agencies that seek a method of demonstrating that the agency is
well- managed, complies with recommended best practices, and is dedicated to
the continuous improvement of public works management practices; and
WHEREAS, the APWA Accreditation Division recommends that the agency's
governing body support the accreditation process; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield Public Works Department desires to pursue
the APWA accreditation self- assessment process; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Director desires that the City Council formally
support the department's goal of pursuing APWA accreditation; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by
reference.
2. The City Council supports the Public Works Department's efforts to
pursue the APWA accreditation process.
