As a reminder, City Hall will be closed December 24th and 25th Notable Items:  Grading and utility work has begun on the Mohawk Street extension project north of Rosedale Highway. The project will extend Mohawk Street at Rosedale Highway north to the existing roadway at Siena Lane. Enclosed are pictures from the project area.  Crews continue to remove built-up sediment within Mill Creek. These activities are expected to be completed by January 5th and water flows are projected to resume on January 6th. Attached are pictures of the ongoing activity.  Due to the upcoming holidays, there will be no trash or recycling pick up on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th) or New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1st). During the weeks of these holidays, all trash and recycling service in Bakersfield will be delayed by one day. A news release from the Public Works Department is enclosed. General Information December 20, 2013 Page 2 TRIP Traffic Notices:  The contractor for the State Route 178/Morning Drive Interchange plans to continue the installation of vehicle detection cameras for the temporary traffic signals at the State Route 178/Canteria Drive intersection on Monday, December 23, 2013. This work requires intermittently stopping SR 178 traffic for up to 10 minutes while work is underway. Motorists should anticipate crews to be working in the roadway between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will be conducting traffic control as needed with the use of flagging personnel through the work zone.  Motorists are advised to anticipate nighttime lane closures on State Route 58, between State Route 99 and Cottonwood Road, on Sunday and Monday, December 22-23, 2013 and on Thursday, December 26, 2013. The lane closures will be in effect between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., each night. The contractor for the State Route 58 Gap Closure project will be closing lanes, as needed, for re-striping and to place concrete barriers along the roadway in advance of roadway construction and bridge work. One travel lane will remain open while this work is underway, but motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention to construction signage and activities while traveling along this section of the highway. Christmas Tree Recycling Please recycle your Christmas trees at the Mt. Vernon Green Waste Facility. Remove all ornaments, bulbs, lights, and plastic or metal stands. The Green Waste Facility is located 2 miles south of Hwy. 58 on South Mt Vernon Avenue and will be closed on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25th, 2013, reopening again at 7am on Thursday, December 26th. It will also be closed on Tuesday January 1st, 2014, reopening at 7am at Thursday, January 2nd, 2014. Christmas trees can also be recycled between December 26th and January 10th at Bakersfield College (south parking lot at the corner of Haley and University), Cal State Bakersfield (southwest parking lot alongside Camino Media), and at the Fairgrounds parking lot (corner of Belle Terrace and P St.). Christmas trees may also be placed in your green waste container by cutting the trees down to fit inside the container. The tree must allow the lid to close completely. All ornaments, bulbs, lights, foil decorations and paper, and metal stands must be removed from the tree, and may be placed in the tan trash container. Boxes, rigid plastic containers and most wrapping paper may be placed inside your blue recycling container.
