HomeMy WebLinkAbout13-11-13 Chase Bank Robberies Re-release BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer (661) 326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us Update November 13, 2013 The Bakersfield Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect/s responsible for the following two Chase Bank robberies which occurred on November 13, 2013, at 4040 California Ave. and September 7, 2013 at 2680 Mt. Vernon Ave. Detectives are investigating several similarities between the two offenses. We are re-releasing both news releases seeking additional information related to the offenses. For Immediate Release November 2, 2013 On Saturday, November 2, 2013, at approximately 1:00 p.m. officers from the Bakersfield Police Department responded to Chase Bank, 4040 California Avenue, for a bank robbery that had just occurred. Employees inside the bank stated the suspect, described as: White or Hispanic race male, 30’s, 6’2”, husky build, gray long-sleeve hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, dark blue bandana covering face approached a teller, brandished a handgun, and demanded currency. After the teller gave the suspect the currency he fled from the business. For Immediate Release September 13, 2013 The Secret Witness Program is offering a reward up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and filing of a complaint for the suspect who is responsible for the bank robbery that occurred at the Chase Bank, located at 2680 Mount Vernon Avenue on Saturday, September 7, 2013. The suspect, depicted in the attached video surveillance photograph, is described as a possible Hispanic Male, in his late 20s to early 30s, with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue bandana covering his face, a gray mid-sleeved t-shirt with a hood and blue jeans. The suspect vehicle, depicted in the attached video surveillance photograph, is described as a newer model, charcoal gray possible Volkswagen Passat. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111, Detective Matt Hilliard at (661) 326- 3501 or the Secret Witness line at (661) 322-4040. The Secret Witness phone line operates 24 hours a day. Secrecy is guaranteed to those who call. Callers will be asked to select a code name and code number when they provide information to Secret Witness. Should additional contact with the caller be necessary, the code name will be published along with a request for the original caller to establish contact. Once contact is made, the caller will be asked to provide their original code number for verification purposes. The same steps will be taken to pay a reward to the caller. Secret Witness is operated under the direction of an independent, voluntary board of directors representing civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, media outlets, and corporate sponsors. Previous Release September 7, 2013 On Saturday, September 7, 2013, at approximately 4:00 p.m. officers from the Bakersfield Police Department responded to Chase Bank, 2680 Mount Vernon Avenue, for a bank robbery that had just occurred. Employees inside the bank stated the suspect, described as: Possible Hispanic Male, Late 20’s-Early 30’s, heavy build, gray mid-sleeve t-shirt with a hood, blue jeans, dark blue bandana covering face Approached a teller, brandished a handgun and demanded currency. After the teller gave the suspect the currency he fled from the business. He was seen entering a: Newer model, Charcoal gray possible Volkswagen Passat Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111 or Detective M.
