For Immediate Release November 18, 2013
Today at about 12:54 pm Bakersfield Police Officers were dispatched to Truxtun Lake
regarding a vehicle in the lake. When officers arrived they discovered a Gray 2009
Toyota Corolla mostly submerged in the lake. Investigation revealed the driver
intentionally drove the vehicle into the lake in an attempt to commit suicide. The driver
was uninjured but transported by Hall Ambulance to the Mary K. Shell Mental Health
Center for precautionary reasons. West bound Truxtun Ave. at Mohawk St. was closed
to vehicle traffic for approximately 30 minutes due to the incident. East bound lanes
were unimpacted.
