HomeMy WebLinkAbout13-11-22 Blessing Corner Attempt Homicide BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release November 22, 2013 On Thursday October 3, 2013, Bakersfield police officers responded to the Blessing Corner Retreat, located at 906 Union Ave, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Once officers arrived they located two victims, an adult male and an adult female. Both victims had been hit in the head with a wooden chair leg by two suspects during a disturbance at the facility. The suspects were known to the victims only by street names. Medical aid responded and both victims were transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The suspects were described as; Suspect #1 – “David” HM Suspect #2 - “Martin” BM 35-40, 5’-5”, 175 lbs. black hair, brown eyes, nick-name of “Suspect”. The female victim’s injuries were later determined to be minor to moderate and she was treated and released from the hospital. The male victim was determined to have a more serious head injury with bleeding on the brain. The male victim was put into a medically induced coma and was listed in critical condition. Bakersfield Police Detective Dave Cox assumed the investigation. After extensive investigation Detective Cox was able to identify “David” as; David Gregory Marquez, 34, of Bakersfield and “Martin” as; Marty Jay Williams, 28, of Bakersfield. A wanted notice was accomplished for both suspects for violation of attempt murder, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. Williams was arrested in Bakersfield on October 11, 2013, and Marquez was located and arrested for a warrant in this case in Coos Bay, Oregon on October 27, 2013. Marquez was returned to Bakersfield on November 27, 2013, by Bakersfield police detectives and he was booked into the Kern County Jail. The motive for the assault was a disagreement over a debt. The male victim was released from the hospital on November 19, 2013. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
