HomeMy WebLinkAbout13-12-04 9000 Ming Ave Robbery Officer Involved Shooting BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release December 4, 2013 On December 4, 2013, at about 3:22 pm Bakersfield Police received a call of a robbery to a person occurring in the Chase Bank parking lot located at the Marketplace at 9000 Ming Ave. The reporting party advised that the suspect vehicle was a blue Nissan Maxima that fled westbound on Ming Ave occupied by four black males in their 30s. The loss from the robbery was reported to be a large duffle bag and currency. The victim was uninjured in this offense. At about 3:27 pm a Bakersfield Police Officer located the dark blue Nissan Maxima occupied by four black males traveling westbound on Ashe Rd. at White Ln. The vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the Meineke Muffler business at 6541 White Ln. As the vehicle pulled into the parking lot, three of the suspects in the vehicle jumped out of the car and fled eastbound on foot across Ashe Rd. The officer pulled into the parking lot and exited his vehicle. The suspect vehicle made what witnesses describe as a rapid u- turn driving directly at the officer. One witness described the driver as trying to run the officer over. The Officer fired several rounds from his duty weapon at the driver of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled from the parking lot and northbound on Ashe Rd. The Officer reentered his vehicle and pursued the suspect vehicle northbound on Ashe Rd. The suspect vehicle accelerated to over 100 mph when the driver lost control and skidded to a stop in the middle of the roadway 200 yards south of Stockdale Hwy. The driver, who had been wounded by the officer’s gunfire, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody at that location. Loss from the offense was recovered at the scene. He was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver of the suspect vehicle has been identified as: Eric Miles Jr. 23, of Bakersfield. Miles was arrested for Robbery, Conspiracy, Evading and Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer. Additional charges may be pending. Additional officers arrived in the area of White Ln. and Ashe Rd. and, with the assistance of several citizens’ calls to the communications center, began searching the area for the outstanding suspects. At 3:57 pm a second suspect was located in the 6300 block of District Blvd. That suspect is identified as: Brandon Burns, 29, of Bakersfield. When Burns was taken into custody he had injuries to his hands and chest consistent with jumping fences. Burns was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment of his injuries which were described as minor. Burns was arrested for Robbery and Conspiracy. Additional charges may be pending. At about 5:20 pm officers located a third suspect identified as: Charles Robertson, 29, of Bakersfield, in the 4600 block of Gosford Rd. Robertson was arrested for Robbery and Conspiracy. Additional charges may be pending. The fourth suspect has not yet been located. The outstanding suspect is described only as a black male.
