Update December 6, 2013
On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, officers identified
Charles Griggs, 19, of Bakersfield,
as one of the suspects responsible for this offense and established probable cause to
arrest him for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Conspiracy. Officers from the Career
Criminal Apprehension Team (CCAT) located Griggs at Mercy Southwest Hospital
where he was being treated for a minor leg wound that had resulted from the attack on
Escondido Ct. After Griggs’ release from the hospital on December 3, 2013, he was
booked into the Kern County Jail.
Further investigation by CCAT officers identified a second suspect as:
Gerardo Felix, 19, of Bakersfield,
who was located on December 3, 2013, in the 1400 block of Truxtun Ave. and arrested
for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Conspiracy. Additional investigation by CCAT
officers led to the identification of a third suspect identified as:
Javier Campos, 19, of Bakersfield.
Campos was located on December 5, 2013, and arrested for Assault with a Deadly
Weapon, Conspiracy and Participation in a Criminal Street Gang. CCAT officers are
seeking the additional charge of Participation in a Criminal Street Gang against Griggs
and Felix through the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. This investigation has
revealed that all of these suspects are members of the “Blasting On Crews” (BOC)
graffiti tagging gang. At this point in the investigation it does not appear that the victims
on Escondido Ct. are involved in any gang related activity and the motivation behind this
attack is still under investigation.

For Immediate Release December 3, 2013
On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at approximately 12:10 A.M., Bakersfield police
responded to the 5600 block of Escondido Ct. in response to a report of shots fired at a
residence. Officers arrived at the location and discovered a female, Stephanie Watson,
in the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. The victim’s injury was
determined to be moderate and she was transported by ambulance to Kern Medical
Center and is listed in stable condition at the hospital. Investigation revealed that two
suspects came to the residence and a disturbance ensured. The victim’s live in
boyfriend, Christopher Nilsen, confronted the suspects at the doorway while armed and
told them to leave. The boyfriend discarded the firearm and chased the suspects away
from the door. While to the front of the residence, 3-4 other suspects were waiting
outside and began to fire at both Watson and Nilsen. Nilsen retrieved his gun and
returned fire at the suspects. No one else appeared to be injured. The initial disturbance
appeared to involve Nilsen’s minor brother. One suspect was identified. The
investigation is continuing to identify the other suspects and establish a motive behind
the shooting.
Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police
Department at 327-7111.
