For Immediate Release December 4, 2013
On December 4, 2013, at about 3:22 pm Bakersfield Police received a call of a robbery
to a person occurring in the Chase Bank parking lot located at the Marketplace at 9000
Ming Ave. The reporting party advised that the suspect vehicle was a blue Nissan
Maxima that fled westbound on Ming Ave occupied by four black males in their 30s. The
loss from the robbery was reported to be a large duffle bag and currency. The victim
was uninjured in this offense.
At about 3:27 pm a Bakersfield Police Officer located the dark blue Nissan Maxima
occupied by four black males traveling westbound on Ashe Rd. at White Ln. The vehicle
pulled into the parking lot of the Meineke Muffler business at 6541 White Ln. As the
vehicle pulled into the parking lot, three of the suspects in the vehicle jumped out of the
car and fled eastbound on foot across Ashe Rd. The officer pulled into the parking lot
and exited his vehicle. The suspect vehicle made what witnesses describe as a rapid u-
turn driving directly at the officer. One witness described the driver as trying to run the
officer over. The Officer fired several rounds from his duty weapon at the driver of the
suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled from the parking lot and northbound on Ashe Rd.
The Officer reentered his vehicle and pursued the suspect vehicle northbound on Ashe
Rd. The suspect vehicle accelerated to over 100 mph when the driver lost control and
skidded to a stop in the middle of the roadway 200 yards south of Stockdale Hwy. The
driver, who had been wounded by the officer’s gunfire, exited the vehicle and was taken
into custody at that location. Loss from the offense was recovered at the scene. He was
transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver of the
suspect vehicle has been identified as:
Eric Miles Jr. 23,
of Bakersfield. Miles was arrested for Robbery, Conspiracy, Evading and Assault with a
Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer. Additional charges may be pending.
Additional officers arrived in the area of White Ln. and Ashe Rd. and, with the
assistance of several citizens’ calls to the communications center, began searching the
area for the outstanding suspects. At 3:57 pm a second suspect was located in the
6300 block of District Blvd. That suspect is identified as:
Brandon Burns, 29,
of Bakersfield. When Burns was taken into custody he had injuries to his hands and
chest consistent with jumping fences. Burns was transported to Kern Medical Center for
treatment of his injuries which were described as minor. Burns was arrested for
Robbery and Conspiracy. Additional charges may be pending.
At about 5:20 pm officers located a third suspect identified as:
Charles Robertson, 29,
of Bakersfield, in the 4600 block of Gosford Rd. Robertson was arrested for Robbery
and Conspiracy. Additional charges may be pending. The fourth suspect has not yet
