For Immediate Release December 18, 2013
On December 17, 2013, at approximately 12:27 am officers were dispatched to the
report of two stolen vehicles from the 1800 block of Union Ave. Within minutes
Bakersfield Police Officer Ryan Clark located one of the stolen vehicles traveling in the
area of Madison Ave. and East Belle Terrace. The vehicle was occupied by Aaron
Wilson, 31 of Bakersfield and Melissa Nevarez 21, of Bakersfield. Wilson, the driver of
the vehicle, led officers on a lengthy pursuit through central Bakersfield before disabling
the vehicle after driving through a chain link fence at Union Ave. and Hopper St. Wilson
resisted arrest and was taken into custody with the assistance of a police canine.
It was initially reported that the vehicles were simply stolen however; it was later
determined that the offenses were actually car-jackings with the weapon in both
offenses being a firearm. There were a total of five suspects and two firearms used in
the offenses. There was an imitation firearm seized from the vehicle occupied by Wilson
and Nevarez.
On December 18, 2013, Officers Felipe Juarez, Keith Cason, Edgar Aguilera and
Frederick Martinez continued the investigation into this offense. Officers located the
second stolen vehicle unoccupied near the Starlighter Motel at 900 South Union Ave.
Following leads, the officers developed information that identified one of the outstanding
suspects as Elias Bernal, 28 of Bakersfield. Officers located Bernal at a residence in the
500 block of East Belle Terrace where he was taken into custody without incident. A
search of the residence where Bernal was taken into custody revealed a stolen
handgun and keys to the victim’s vehicle. Bernal also had an outstanding warrant for
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
An additional suspect identified as Tamika Callahan, 26 of Bakersfield was arrested as
a co-conspirator to the carjacking. Officers are continuing to follow-up leads regarding
the identity and location of the fifth suspect.
