For Immediate Release December 20, 2013
On December 19, 2013, Bakersfield Police officers were patrolling the area of Crawford
and Alta Vista Streets when they observed a group of Eastside Crip gang members who
were wanted for a recent Burglary on Ridgeway Dr. Two of the suspects fled on foot
from the officers. An officer pursued the suspects on foot. While the officer was chasing
one of the suspects, a fifteen year old juvenile, the suspect reached into his waistband
and discarded a concealed handgun. The suspect was arrested and booked into
juvenile hall for various gang and weapons charges. Although firearms were taken in
the burglary on Ridgeway Dr., the seized firearm was not one of those weapons.
The second suspect was not apprehended. It was reported to investigating officers that
the second suspect, also a juvenile, was armed with a handgun. The investigation into
the identity and location of the second suspect is on-going.
