The Bakersfield Police Department has identified the officer involved in this incident as
Officer Jessie Perez. Officer Perez has been a police officer for five and one half years.
Officer Perez was placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the
investigation and determination by the Bakersfield Police Department Critical Incident
Review Board.
The suspect has been identified as Jaspal Singh, 45 of Bakersfield. The firearm
possessed by Singh was recovered at the scene. Singh was also found to be in
possession of illegal narcotics at the time of the incident.

On December 29, 2013, at approximately 8:02 a.m., officers of the Bakersfield Police
Department responded to a residence in the 5200 block of San Mateo Drive for a
domestic violence call. As officers approached the residence they were confronted by
an adult male armed with a firearm. The male pointed his firearm at officers and one
officer fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a
local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No officers were injured in this incident.
The name of the suspect is being withheld at this time.
