On Saturday, December 28, 2013, the ”AVOID the 18” Kern DUI Task Force conducted
a DUI / Driver License Checkpoint eastbound in the 6600 block of Rosedale Highway
between the hours of 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM.
A total of 1,804 vehicles passed through this location. 1,126 of those vehicles were
screened, with the following results:
3 DUI arrests
3 Misdemeanor arrest
22 Drivers were found to not have a valid driver license
9 of those drivers were found to have a suspended license
17 Vehicles were impounded
Per CVC 2814.2; prior to the conclusion of the checkpoint, officers released 14 vehicles
which had been held for driver license violations.
This DUI/Driver License Checkpoint was part of a series of enforcement and education
efforts conducted by the ”AVOID the 18” Kern DUI Task Force in an effort to reduce the
number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions. A major
component of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of the dangers of
impaired driving and to encourage sober, designated drivers.
The “AVOID the 18” Kern DUI Task Force is comprised of several law enforcement
agencies from Kern County. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA). The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by
calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
