On January 8, 2014, at 8:00 am officers of the Bakersfield Police Department Special
Enforcement Unit, Career Criminal Apprehension Team, along with detectives from the
Crimes Against Persons Detail and parole agents from the Parole Apprehension Team
began conducting surveillance on a residence located in the 1000 block of Pacheco Rd.
The object of the surveillance was Francisco Garcia Valenzuela, 33, of Bakersfield.
Garcia Valenzuela had a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder related to the
shooting that occurred on January 5, 2014, in the 800 block of Karma Ct.
At approximately 9:15 am officers confirmed that Garcia Valenzuela was inside the
residence. At 10:38 am a SWAT call out was initiated to coordinate the arrest since
Garcia Valenzuela was considered armed. At 11:05 am, while awaiting SWAT members
to secure the perimeter around the residence Garcia Valenzuela exited the residence
and was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant for the residence is being
served.

01/05/14, at 10:09 pm, Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Karma Court,
regarding a victim of a shooting. Upon Officers arrival they located the victim at the
listed location suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. It was determined the shooting
occurred on the east side of the apartment complex located at 1000 Pacheco Road
(Monitor Street Side). The victim was transported to KMC for treatment of his moderate
injuries. Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The
suspect was described only as a Hispanic male.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is
