For Immediate Release January 9, 2014
On Friday, January 3, 2014, and Saturday, January 4, 2014, between 9:00 p.m. and
1:00 a.m. the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail conducted a
speed enforcement patrol in the greater Bakersfield area. A total of 16 traffic officers
monitored several areas within the City which have had repeated speeding violations.
As a result of this enforcement effort, traffic officers issued a total of 129 citations,
impounded 7 vehicles, and had 1 felony arrest. Two of these motorists were also cited
for street racing and their vehicles were impounded.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The public is
encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired
driver.
