For Immediate Release January 29, 2014
On January 29, 2014, at 3:28 am officers responded to the report of a woman hanging
off of the Wilson Road overpass over Highway 99. Officers Louis Rodriguez, Seann
Woessner and David Hamma responded and found an adult female dangling from the
overpass over the southbound lanes. Officers Rodriguez and Hamma were able to pull
up on the bottom of the chain link fence enough to grab onto the woman’s hands and
hold her. Meanwhile, Officer Woessner retrieved a pair of bolt cutters and cut an
opening in the fence where they pulled the woman to safety.
The woman had climbed over the fence with the intent of committing suicide however; a
passerby stayed with her telling her not to jump. When she tried to climb back over the
fence she slipped and fell grabbing onto the fence to keep her from falling. The
passerby grabbed onto and held the woman while the passerby was able get the
attention of a passing motorist who called 911. The motorist then assisted the passerby
in holding onto the woman until police officers arrived.
The woman was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
