For Immediate Release February 12, 2014
On February 12, 2014, at 5:09 pm Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to the
intersection of 30th and Q Streets regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Upon
arrival officers discovered that the pedestrian was a male four year old juvenile. The
juvenile was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a
short while later. Preliminary investigation revealed that an adult female was driving a
1998 Ford Expedition southbound on Q St. and made a westbound turn onto 30th St.
Witness statements indicate that the child ran in front of the Expedition and was struck.
Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The investigation
is on-going.
