On February 12, 2014, at 11:08 am Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to
Bakersfield High School to assist Kern High School District Police Department officers
with a minor explosion that had occurred in a welding classroom. Bakersfield police
officers and Kern High School District Police Department officers worked together to
evacuate the affected classroom and two adjoining classrooms displacing
approximately ninety students for less than a half an hour. The remainder of the campus
was unaffected as a result of this incident.
Bakersfield Police Bomb Squad investigators responded to the scene and assumed the
investigation. They inspected evidence and interviewed several students regarding the
incident. No arrests have been made at this point in the investigation. This was an
isolated incident and there were no injuries and no damaged property to report.
