On February 14th, 2014 about 1:03 a.m. officers were dispatched to the AM/PM
convenience store located at 4203 Ming Avenue regarding a robbery alarm. It was
discovered that a male subject armed with a machete entered the business and began
demanding currency and merchandise. The suspect took the store clerk’s keys and fled
in the clerk’s vehicle with items stolen from the store.
About 30 minutes later, Officer Ryan Maxwell located the vehicle traveling northbound
on Union Avenue. The vehicle was stopped at Union Avenue and 19th Street where the
driver exited the vehicle in possession of a machete and a kitchen knife. The driver,
Jorge Morales, 28, of Bakersfield, was ultimately taken into custody. He was arrested
for carjacking, robbery, and a parole violation.
