HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-02-18 Injury Hit Run accident Hageman Road and Drake Passage way (records) 14-35929 A: 941 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release February 18, 2014 On February 17, 2014, at approximately 8:54 p.m., officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of an injury hit and run accident at Hageman Road and Drake Passage Way. The investigation revealed that an adult bicyclist was riding west on Hageman Road in the bicycle lane when Jonathan Smith (30) of Bakersfield was driving his vehicle west on Hageman Road. Smith’s vehicle, a 2000 model GMC Sierra Truck, drifted into the bicycle lane and struck the bicyclist. Smith fled the scene in his vehicle west on Hageman Road. At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers located Smith and his vehicle at a residence in the 12200 block of El Captain Way. Smith was arrested and charged with hit and run with injury, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and having no insurance. Smith later resisted officers while being booked into the Kern County Jail and he was subsequently charged with an additional crime of resisting/obstructing a police officer. The bicyclist was transported to a local area hospital with moderate injuries.
