For Immediate Release March 8, 2014
On 3/08/14 at about 11:49 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a traffic
collision on Gosford Road, south of Stockdale Highway.
Officers arrived and found that a white Honda Civic had collided with a blue Ford Explorer.
The investigation revealed the driver of the Honda, Rodolfo Contreras, 22, of Bakersfield
was traveling south on Coffee Road. As Contreras drove across Stockdale Highway, he lost
control of his vehicle and struck the raised center divider. Contreras’ vehicle crossed into
the northbound lanes of Gosford Road and struck the Ford Explorer, killing an adult male
driver. A silver Toyota 4Runner travelling north on Gosford Road struck a portion of
Contreras’ vehicle. The occupants of the 4Runner declined medical attention. Contreras
and a passenger in the Ford Explorer both sustained minor injuries and were transported to
a local hospital.
Drugs are suspected to be a factor in this collision.
The identity of the deceased is withheld pending notification of family by the coroner.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call the
Bakersfield Police Department Officer Nicolas Gospich at 326-3967.
