HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-03-14 1400 blk 4th St. Laser Search Warrant 14- BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release March 14, 2014 On Friday, March 14, 2014, at 6:25 am the Federal Bureau of Investigations along with local law enforcement officers from the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a residence located in the 1400 block of 4th St. The purpose of the search warrant was to search for a laser that was pointed at the Kern County Sheriff’s Department helicopter that was in flight on March 8, 2014. The search warrant resulted in the recovery of a stolen motorcycle, a usable amount of methamphetamine, narcotics packaging material, a scale used to weigh narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia. The resident, Timothy Wilson, 46, of Bakersfield, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Transportation of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia and Resisting/Delaying Arrest. A second individual, Patrick Florez, 45, of Bakersfield, was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and False License Plate Tabs. The investigation into the use of a laser on an aircraft in flight is continuing and additional charges may be pending. The use of a laser at an aircraft in flight disorients the pilot and can have disastrous consequences. For this reason, the FBI has a pilot awareness and reward program to combat laser strike incidents. People who are aware of these laser strike incidents can call 911 or the local FBI office to be eligible to receive up to $10,000 until April 10, 2014.
