HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-03-25 Attempted Murder Arrest (Records) 14-62817 A: 697 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release March 25, 2014 Shortly before noon today, the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 8th St. and Eye St. When officers arrived, they found shell casings indicating shots had been fired but no victims or suspects were in the area. Witnesses provided a vehicle description and a short time later, a police officer spotted the vehicle near 10th St. and P St. Officers detained Shawndel Ziegler, age 22, of Bakersfield, and Anthony Gaston, age 23, of Bakersfield, nearby. Witnesses identified the vehicle and told officers Ziegler had fired shots at another vehicle. Officers arrested Ziegler for reckless discharge of a firearm and Gaston for an outstanding parole violation warrant. A victim later came to the Bakersfield Police Department and stated she had been the intended target of the shooting. Officers examined her vehicle and found bullet strikes consisted with the statements of the victim and witnesses. The victim was uninjured. Ziegler has also been charged with attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang. The firearm used in this incident has not been recovered. The name of the victim is not being released at this time out of concern for her safety. This investigation is ongoing.
