HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-04-10 Officers Assaulted (Records) 14-75645 A: 761 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release April 10, 2014 At about 7:40 PM tonight, a Bakersfield Police Department officer was on patrol in the 700 block of Chester Avenue when a woman waved him over. She told the officer a man was attacking a woman in the 700 block of K St. When the officer arrived on K St, a number of bystanders directed him to where PEDRO TORRES HERNANDEZ, age 58, of Bakersfield, was physically assaulting a woman. The officer confronted Hernandez, who was swinging a large flashlight and refused to comply with orders. Another police officer came to assist and Hernandez violently attacked one of the officers, causing a minor injury. Other officers responded to help and they were eventually able to take Hernandez into custody. Hernandez was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during his arrest and apparent drug influence. He is under arrest for spousal abuse, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and felony resisting arrest. Hernandez is on Post Release Community Supervision (AB 109). The woman assaulted by Hernandez was his live-in girlfriend, who was injured but declined medical treatment.
