Truxtun Av and Miller St Hit and Run Collision Update 14-78559 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 jgrubbs@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release April 16, 2014 Investigators have identified the driver of the hit and vehicle as: Juan Armando Cortez, hispanic male, 33 5’9”-11”, stocky build, black hair and brown eyes. Cortez is wanted for Hit and Run Causing Injury, Unlicensed Driver, No Proof of Insurance and Expired Registration. Previous Release April 14, 2014 On April 14, 2014, Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. Truxtun Ave. and Miller St. regarding a hit and run collision. On arrival they discovered that a 90 year old male was riding a motorcycle eastbound on E. Truxtun Ave. when he was struck by the suspect who was driving a ’99 gray Dodge Caravan southbound on Miller St. Witnesses stated that the driver of van failed to stop at a stop sign on Miller St. before striking the victim. Officers were able to follow an evidence trail left behind by the van to the 1100 block of Delores St. where they found the vehicle abandoned. The suspect vehicle has been impounded by officers. Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene officers are searching for: Armando Cortez, 33, of Bakersfield, 5’9”-11”, stocky build, last seen wearing a light colored baseball cap, light colored long sleeved shirt and dark pants 14-78559 to interview regarding his involvement in the collision if any. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he is undergoing surgery for major injuries.
