A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE CITY SEAL AS
REQUESTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX
WHEREAS, the University of Phoenix ( "UOP ") approached the City of
Bakersfield ( "City ") to offer a ten percent tuition reduction to employees of the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding
( "MOU ") with the UOP which will allow the UOP to offer employees of the City
tuition discounts and other benefits, and is attached hereto as Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, the MOU contains a provision requesting the use of the City
Seal for promoting its educational programs to City's employees; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Bakersfield Municipal Code, section 1.08.030,
the City may by resolution permit the use of a reproduction or facsimile of the
City Seal when the Council deems it to be in the public interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct.
2. The City Council finds that it is beneficial and serves a City purpose
to allow the use of the City Seal by the UOP to promote educational
programs and tuition reduction to the City's employees in
accordance with the MOU.
3. Pursuant to the Bakersfield Municipal Code, which governs the use
of the City Seal, authorization is hereby granted for the requested
use.
