Called to Order by Councilmember Johnson at 10:05 a.m.

3. Project 180/Prevention Update
Cindy Utez, Kern County Department of Human Services, provided a pre
offering an overview of all of the agencies in Project 180, the services the

Sal Arias, Kern County Superintendent of Schools, reported that there is �
need for more intervention services, such as job skills training; targe
management; re-entry services; low cost tattoo removal services; adc
substance abuse programs; residential programs; and more services fo
areas.
Mr. Arias introduced Jesse and Esther Valdez, who spoke about their
lifestyles, and how their lives were turned around as a result of the servicE
through the Project 180 partners and their strong spiritual faith.
In response to a question from Committee Co-Chair Maggard, Ms. Utez
all partners collaborate to address the individual needs of those persons

Mr. Maggard said that he is interested in creating a greater connection

4. Discussion regarding Future Scope and Direction of the Committee
Committee Co-Chair Maggard asked that the focus of future meetings
on intervention.
Committee member Sullivan requested that this include a greater effort t
larger churches and their pastors more involved.
Committee Co-Chair Johnson directed that AB-109 funding be includ�

Committee member Perez asked for a gap analysis between the servic
offered and what areas may still be lacking.
Committee Co-Chair Maggard is also interested in determining wh
