HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 045-02RESOLUTION NO. 0 zJ: 5 ' 0 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING A CALL OF THE BOARD OF MAYORS OF THE KERN COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF CITIES FOR REORGANIZATION OF THE KERN COUNTY LOCAL AGENCY FORMATION COMMISSION WHEREAS, California statutes establish a Local Agency Formation Commission ("LAFCO") that, among other things, regulates annexations, governs growth-inducing expansion of utility systems, and formation of cities and special districts; and WHEREAS, California statutes provide that each county LAFCO shall be composed of two representatives from the County Board of Supervisors, two representatives from among the cities within the county, a public member-at-large, and, at the discretion of the balance of the Commission, two representatives from among the special districts within the county; and WHEREAS, the Mayor of Bakersfield and mayors of other cities met to discuss and negotiate an alternative that is equitable and acceptable to all cities in Kern County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, that it supports a call by the Board of Mayors of the Kern County Association of Cities to reorganize the Kern County Local Agency Formation Commission by asking state legislators to add two additional city representatives to LAFCO, one of which to be a permanent seat for the City of Bakersfield. .......... 0o0 ..........
