February 20, 2015 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager
Subject: General Information
Good News
Bakersfield Mobile, the City’s smartphone reporting app, continues to be a
popular tool for users to submit various service requests directly to City
departments. Since its launch in July 2014, over 1,500 reports have been
submitted via the app. Graffiti-related cleanup requests continue to be the most
popular report type – comprising approximately 50 percent of the total number
of requests to date. Most recently, staff added the capability for users to report
illegal dumping via the mobile app. As previously noted, the app was recently
recognized by the Kern Council of Governments as a 2015 Regional Award of
Merit winner in the category of Innovation.
According to Amtrak, out of approximately 525 Amtrak stations nationwide, the
Bakersfield station handled 521,423 passengers last year ranking it the 22nd
busiest station in the country--ahead of stations like Fresno at #30 and Santa
Barbara at #38
