HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/20/2014AT OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER February 20, 2015 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager Subject: General Information Good News  Bakersfield Mobile, the City’s smartphone reporting app, continues to be a popular tool for users to submit various service requests directly to City departments. Since its launch in July 2014, over 1,500 reports have been submitted via the app. Graffiti-related cleanup requests continue to be the most popular report type – comprising approximately 50 percent of the total number of requests to date. Most recently, staff added the capability for users to report illegal dumping via the mobile app. As previously noted, the app was recently recognized by the Kern Council of Governments as a 2015 Regional Award of Merit winner in the category of Innovation.  According to Amtrak, out of approximately 525 Amtrak stations nationwide, the Bakersfield station handled 521,423 passengers last year ranking it the 22nd busiest station in the country--ahead of stations like Fresno at #30 and Santa Barbara at #38 TRIP News  Intermittent Nighttime Closures Scheduled for Rosedale Highway Bakersfield, Calif.— Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is relocating utility poles and upgrading electrical equipment along Rosedale Highway from Gibson Street to Allen Road in advance of the Rosedale Highway Widening Project, managed by the Thomas Roads Improvement Program (TRIP). Intermittent nighttime road closures are planned for Rosedale Highway on February 22nd and March 1st to allow PG&E to install new overhead lines and equipment near Mohawk Street and Landco Drive. On February 22nd, the closures will take place in the vicinity of Mohawk Street. On March 1st, the closures will be just east of Landco Drive. This work will require General Information February 13, 2015 Page 2 stopping traffic for brief periods while power lines are pulled across the roadway. Work will take place between midnight and 4 a.m. on both nights. Misc. This also applies when a large number of street sweeper are in Fleet for repairs. Areas that have been missed during this time will be swept at the end of the month only when possible.
