HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 074-02RESOLUTION NO. 0 7'~"'02 A RESOLUTION APPROVING SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE SPECIAL PROJECTS GRANT AND AUTHORIZATION FOR CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE REQUISITE DOCUMENTS THEREFORE. WHEREAS, in the FY 2002 Congress Conference Report, Congress made funds available in the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Economic Development Initiative account for special projects pursuant to the VA-HUD Independent Agencies Appropriation Act of 2002 (PL 107-73); and WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield (City) were allocated $490,000 of those funds to redevelop Bakersfield through the Economic Development Initiative; and WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used by the City to install streetscape improvements on Baker Street between Jackson and Niles Street and other sidewalk improvements; and WHEREAS, the City will be the administrator of the grant; and WHEREAS, in order to access the funds, the City needs to submit an application to HUD; and WHEREAS, said application(s) contain assurances that the City must comply with; and WHEREAS, if the application is approved, the City will enter an agreement with HUD; and WHEREAS, under the terms of those agreements, the City will pledge to HUD to administer the grant pursuant to the grant guidelines, as well. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. That the above recitals are true and correct. That the City Council of the City of Bakersfield authorizes the submittal of an application for the Economic Development Initiative -- Special Projects Grant for $490,000. Page 1 of 2 ~)HIGINA[ That the City Council of the City of Bakersfield appoints its City Manager, or his designee, as agent to conduct all negotiations, execute and submit all documents including, but not limited to applications, agreements, amendments, payment requests and so on, which may be necessary for receipt and administration of the grant.
