HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 3659ORDINANCE NO. 3 6 5 9 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 15.16 OF THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE AND ADOPTING AND ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 15.16 THERETO. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 15.16 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code relating to the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby repealed. follows: SECTION 2. A new Chapter 15.16 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is added to read as Sections: 15.16.010 15.16.020 15.16.030 15.16.040 15.16.050 15.16.060 15.16.070 15.16.080 Chapter 15.16 UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE Adoption. Deletions. Modifications. Section 310.1 amended - Condensate disposal. Section 321.8 amended - Access. Section 404.4 amended - Access, inspection and repair. Section 508.4 amended - Clearances for Type I hood. Section 803.3 amended - Dampers. 15.16.010 Adoption. Except as provided in this chapter. that certain mechanical code known and designated as the Uniform Mechanical Code. 1994 Edition, sponsored and copyrighted by the International Conference of Building Officials, a copy of which is on file in the office of the Building Depat talent of the City for use and examination by the public, and each portion and provision thereof is adopted by reference as modified and amended in this chapter and is declared to be the mechanical code of the City for the purpose stated therein. 15.16.020 Deletions The following section of the Uniform Mechanical Code, 1994 Edition, is not adopted as part of this chapter and is deleted: Section 110.1 Board of Appeals 15.16.030 Modifications. The sections of the Uniform Mechanical Code mentioned in Sections 15.16.040 through 15.16.080 are amended to read as set forth in this chapter. 15.16.040 Section 310.1 amended - Condensate disoosal. Section 310.1 is amended by adding a second paragraph to read as follows: All condensate drains installed in or on commercial structures shall be of metallic pipe and fittings. Condensate drains installed outside residential units shall be metallic pipe when over four (4) feet in developed length. Condensate drains entering residential units shall be installed in ABS, PVC, DWV, or metallic pipe installed in accordance to Uniform Plumbing Code installation standards. 15.16.050 Section 321.8 amended- Access. Section 321.8 is amended by adding a fourth paragraph to read as follows: Access from within structure shall be provided through a common use room (electrical meter room, etc.) or a common use corridor. These areas shall be readily accessible to all tenants and service employees or access within a building can be provided within each tenant space. 15.16.060 Section 404.4 amended - Access, inspection and reoair. Section 404.4 is amended by adding a second paragraph to read as follows: An evaporative cooling system shall have a level working platform when located on a roof with a slope greater than 4 in 12. The platform shall be a minimum of 30 inches in width and shall be located along all sides of the unit (with the exception of the side with the duct discharge). The sides of a working platform facing the roof edge shall be protected by a substantial railing a minimum of 42 inches in height with vertical rails not more than 21 inches apart. Parapets with a minimum height of 24 inches may be substituted in lieu of the required railing. 2 15.16.070 Section 508.4 amended. Clearances for Type I hood. 15.16.080 Section 508.4 is amended by adding a second paragraph to read as follows: Stainless steel wall shield below hood shall maintain 3 inches from protected combustibles. Section 803.3 amended - Dampers. Section 803.3 is amended by adding a third paragraph to read as follows: Fireplaces installed with gas lines into the firebox shall have one of the following alterations to the damper: Three one inch diameter holes installed in damper. or 1/2 inch stop welded onto damper edge, or remove damper with approval of manufacturer. SECTION 3.
