ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 15.24 OF THE
BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE
UNIFORM CODE FOR THE ABATEMENT OF DANGEROUS
BUILDINGS AND ADOPTING AND ADDING A NEW
CHAPTER 15.24 THERETO.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
Chapter 15.24 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code relating to the Uniform
Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2.
A new Chapter 15.24 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is added to read as
follows:

15.24.010 Adoption.
Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, that certain code entitled
Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, 1994 Edition, sponsored and
copyrighted by the International Conference of Building Officials, a copy of which is on file
with the Building Department of the City of Bakersfield for use and examination by the
public, is adopted by reference and enacted as the Uniform Code for the Abatement of
Dangerous Buildings of the City, for the purpose stated therein and with the exceptions and
subject to the amendments and deletions of the provisions thereof provided in this chapter.
15.24.0.20 Deletions.
The following Chapters and Sections of the Uniform Code for the Abatement
of Dangerous Buildings, 1994 Edition, are not adopted as part of this chapter and are
deleted.
Section 202, Enforcement. Abatement of Dangerous Buildings
Section 205, Enforcement, Board of Appeals
Chapter 4, Notices and Orders of Building Official
Chapter 5, Appeal
Section 602, Procedures for Conduct of Hearing Appeals, Form of Notice of
Hearing
Section 605, Procedures for Conduct of Hearing Appeals, Method and Form
of Decision
Section 701.3, Enforcement of the Order of the Building Official or the Board
of Appeals, Failure to Commence Work
Chapter 9, Recovery of Cost of Repair or Demolition
15.24.030 Section 201.1 amended -- Enforcement.
Section 201.1 is amended by the addition of a third paragraph to subsection
201.1 to read as follows:
The enforcement of the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous
Buildings by the Building Official shall not prevent the enforcement of the
State Housing Law and applicable regulations by the County Health Officer.
15.24.040 Section 801.1 amended -- Procedure for work by orivate contract.
Section 801.1 is amended to read as follows:
801.1 Procedure. When an work or demolition is to be done pursuant to
Section this Code, the Building Official shall cause the work to be
accomplished by private contract under his direction. Plans and specifications
therefor may be prepared by said building official, or he may employ such
architectural and engineering assistance on a contract basis as he may deem
reasonably necessary. Standard City contractual procedures shall be followed.
15.24.050 Section 802.1 amended -- Repair and Demolition Fund.
Section 802.1 is amended to read as follows:
802.1 General. The City Council shall establish a special fund to be
designated as the Repair and Demolition Fund. Payments shall be made out
of said fund upon the demand of the Director to defray the costs and
expenses which may be incurred by the City in causing to be done the
necessary work of repair or demolition of dangerous buildings.
SECTION 3.
This Ordinance shall be posted in accordance with the Bakersfield Municipal
Code and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after the date of its passage.
