OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
August 28, 2015 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager
Subject: General Information
Good News
The California High-Speed Rail Authority held a Community Open House this past
Tuesday to discuss the Bakersfield F Street Station alignment. The event appeared
to be a success as many citizens of Bakersfield attended. Staff from the City and
from the High-Speed Rail Authority were present to discuss with residents the
future alignment and answer their questions. Another open house will be held in October. Please see the attached pictures.
The State Route 99/Hosking Avenue Interchange marked a major milestone on
August 18th when the contractor placed concrete for the stems and soffit (girders
and bottom of the bridge). The pour required 1,800 cubic yards of concrete,
which totaled more than 180 truckloads. The operation began at 3 a.m. and
concluded around 4:30 p.m. There were no impacts to traffic. The contractor is
planning another concrete pour for the bridge deck in late-September.

UPDATE: Around-the-Clock Lane Closure on State Route 58 Postponed
The around-the-clock lane closure originally scheduled to begin tonight on
eastbound State Route 58, has been postponed. This work will be rescheduled in
September.
The intermittent lane closures on southbound Wible Road, between Belle Terrace
and Wilson Road, will continue for the next four to six weeks. The closures will be
needed to off-load materials for the retaining wall currently under construction in
this area.
Construction crews will be working in various areas throughout the construction
zone during daytime hours next week. The majority of work will occur behind the
temporary concrete barrier rail and is not expected to affect traffic. Motorists should drive with caution while traveling through this area and watch for
personnel and equipment that may be entering or leaving the roadway. Report
