Jesus was employed in the Recreation and Parks Department since 2008. On behalf of City staff, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Notable Items  The City has been extremely proactive in implementing water saving measures over the past year. Below are highlights of what the City has accomplished. o Developed a Drought Webpage – a comprehensive resource for the public to learn more about watering restrictions and conservation opportunities o Continue outreach via all City social media feeds o Installation of drought tolerant landscaping in front of City Hall North o Installation of Maxicom Systems in 40 parks with an additional 19 planned to be installed by spring of 2016. This program is anticipated to save nearly 100 million gallons of water per year. o Installed Hardscape and Synthetic Turf in Medians o Recreation and Parks has cut back its water use by 56% in City Parks o Reduction in the number of times the City Fleet is washed o Tertiary Treated Water utilized to irrigate the State Farm Sports Village If you should receive any questions pertaining to the City response to the drought, we encourage everyone to visit the City’s drought web page at bakersfieldcity.us/drought.  Building activity throughout the City has continued to increase over the past year. Overall, year-to-date total permits (9,044) continue to outpace 2014 (7,107) by 27 percent. Total year-to-date valuations (approx. $566 million) also outpace 2014 (approx. $450 million) by a similar margin. Attached is the summary report for August 2015 building activity. The office will have my contact information as usual. There are no Council meetings during those time frames. TRIP Traffic Control Continues on State Route 184 Intermittent traffic control is expected to continue into October on State Route 184 near the connection of State Route 178. Motorists should anticipate having to stop for up to five minutes, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., and are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations or choose an alternate route during these hours. The contractor for the State Route 178 Widening Project is working on drainage systems along both sides of State Route 184 between Chase Avenue and State Route 178. This work affects both directions of travel and traffic control with intermittent flagging is needed to complete this work. Motorists are reminded to watch for changing conditions and to obey flagging personnel and construction signage at all times. Traffic control may also be in place, as needed, along other areas of State Route 178, between Canteria Drive and Mira Monte while utility companies continue to relocate lines. Motorists are advised to pay attention and watch for work crews and equipment while driving through this area. Around-the-Clock Lane Closure on State Route 58 - Nighttime lane closures on State Route 99 Pavement re-striping has been completed on eastbound State Route 58, allowing an around-the-clock lane closure, between State Route 99 and H Street, to move forward this weekend. The closure is needed to allow for the installation of a 72- inch diameter pipe, which is part of the drainage system for the Beltway Operational Improvements Project. This lane closure is expected to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, September 18th and continue through 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22nd. All lanes are expected to be open in time for the morning commute on Tuesday. The eastbound connection from Real Road to State Route 58 is also expected to be closed between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight on Friday and Monday nights. These closures are needed for the installation and removal of temporary concrete barrier rail used during the pipe installation. Nighttime closures will also be required next week on northbound State Route 99 between Belle Terrace and Wilson Road. Closures of the outside northbound lane General Information September 18, 2015 Page 3 are needed Sunday night through Tuesday night, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to install temporary lighting in this area. In addition, the southbound State Route 99 on-ramp from Ming Avenue is expected to be closed Monday and Tuesday nights, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., for striping and to place temporary concrete barrier rail. Highlights include: • Overall, year-to-date total permits (9,044) continue to outpace 2014 (7,107) by 27 percent. Total year-to-date valuations (approx. $566 million) also outpace 2014 (approx. $450 million) by a similar margin. • Total number of permits for August 2015 (1,172) is comparable with July 2015 (1,192) and above August 2014 (904). • Total valuations for August 2015 (approx. $80 million) are considerably above July 2015 (approx. $60 mil.) and August 2014 (approx. $55 million). • Single-family residential permits for August 2015 (68) dipped below the year-to-date average (131). The eight-month total for 2015 (983) is still close to the same figure for 2014 (1,022) and still projects out to higher total for 2015 (1,475) than 2014 (1,382). • Eight-month totals for single-family residential valuations in 2015 (approx. $262 million) still continue to outpace 2014 (approx. $241million). • Electrical permits (which include solar) continue to show very notable gains.  Total electrical permits for August 2015 (556) account for 47 percent of all permits issued. The number is also a 50-percent increase over total electrical permits for August 2014 (371).  Valuation for August 2015 electrical permits (approx. $50 mil.) accounts for 62 percent of total permit valuation for August 2015. The total represents a 125-percent increase over July 2015 (approx. $22 million) and 504-percent increase over August 2014 (approx. $8 million).
