Re; PH Violation 3/22/06
Crystal Geyser had a violation with a pH reading lower than 6 pH.
It started about 4 am the acid pump had a leak on the tubing going to zone #1, also the leak
caused some damage to the anti-siphon valve, because of the leak it sprayed chemical on the
valve and dissolved the top of screw holding anti-siphon valve in place. Maintenance fixed the
problem. Zone #1 was affected so badly that probe malfunctioned; it called for HcI acid causing
the pH to drop. Zone# 2 Preamp malfunctioned also so it was calling for more acid.
I tried to correct problem but had to replace probe for zone# 1 and A/C Elec was called to the
replace preamp cable.
The pretreatment tank became full and started to gravity feed out of plant.
From 04:20 hours to 08:30 hours plant flowed about 4567 gals at a ph lower that 1.
From 08:30 hours to 08:50 hours another 105 gals were discharged with a ph of 1-2.
And from 08:50 hours to 09:40 hours another 945 gallons were discharged with a ph of 2-6, with
all the confusion I forgot to turn off pump in the panel. A total of 5618 gallons were discharged.
To prevent this from occurring again I have taken the following steps.
We have our Q/C technicians check waterwaste area every hour, also Q/C technicians and
maintenance department will be visually checking the chemical room.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to call.
