The attached memo from the Finance Director indicates that the 5.94�0 over the same quarter last year. When comparing the mo� quarters with the prior four quarters, we are still down -1.49%, however; b estimates were at -3%, so this is also positive news. We expect to recE quarter data towards the end of March, 201 1. � Congratulations to Jason Meadors, who was recently promoted to Wc Director, a position he will assume on January 3, 201 1. Jason is currently a Civil Engineer III for the Public Works Design Engineering section; anc he was a senior engineer/project manager ai� Boyle Engineering. � Congratulations also go to Nick Fidler, who w`II take over the reins as GE S�perintendent at the beginning of the year. Smith, Finance Director December 16, 2010 Quarterly Sales Tax Update We received the most recent quarterly sales tax data, which reflects thE and sales during the months of July, August and September 2010. The c and annual trend information is as follows: Comparing the most recent quarter with the same quarter last ye positive (+) 5.94 Comparing the most recent four quarters with the prior four quarfi negative (-) 1.4 The positive quarterly results reflect the 3rd tir�e in the last 16 quarter where our quarterly results have been above zero. Grading activities have begun. • Mesa Marin Softball - A change order with the contractor for improvements within the concession stand and an extension of 55 w� was approved by City Council at the November 3, 2010 meeting. • Q Street - The project is in the design development phase with a date of completion of December 201 1. 90�o complete constructior specification documents have been reviewed by the Recreation Department. • Mesa Marin Sports Field Maintenance - The invitation to bid began on November 30, 2010. A pre-bid walk through will be held on De< 2010 and bids are due January 6, 201 1. • Bakersfield Airpark - Currently developing an invitation to bid docurr ongoing maintenance of all landscape improvements within and c the Airpark. DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS NOVEMBER 2010 MONTHLY REPORT PAGE TWO � City Events for the month of November: o Central Park at Mill Creek - Farmers Mc�rket ended. • Special Events for the month of November included: o November 6th - Beach Park, American Foundation for Suicide Walk, 300 guests o November 7th - Central Park, Center for Autism 20th , Celebration, 300 guests o November 13th - Beach Park, Bakersfield Track Club Run, 400 G� o November 20t" - Yokuts Park, Bakersfield Homeless Center Wc Guests o November 30th - Central Park, Center for Kern Political Educ Conference, 50 guests • Total Attendance: 6,135 - Reservations/Special Events AQUATICS: • Attendance at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center increased by 40�o as to the same time last year. Total attendance for November wa� November's attendance was 2,188. • 100 Mile Club o The fourth annual 100 Mile Club Social took place on Friday, Nover The awards ceremony was held to recognize club members and c their combined distance of 67,352 miles. That distance is 2 and 3/41 around the world! The club began in January 2006 with a handful members. There is a 5.7�o increase from last yea attendance due to the number of teams in the Fall Softball Leag� addition of the Adaptive Softball League. • Kern County Disc Golf Club partnered with the City to coor tournament at Silver Creek Park on Saturday, November 6th. There two (42) participants in the event. • Fourth Annual Hershey's Track & Field After School Meet took pla< Creek Community Center on November 18th. Children from MLK Creek competed in the standing broad jump, softball throw, 50 & 100 relays, and obstacle course. • Fall 5 K Run/Walk - 113 participants participated in this event or November 20th at The Park at River Walk. The Athletic Division workec Therapy-Fitness and CSUB P.E.A.K. Department to put on this event. $735 was raised for the "League of Dreams". • Other Sports Highlights o The Adaptive Coed Softball League continued its games thi: Beach Park. o The Adaptive Youth Tennis program continued classes this mon Park. COMMUNITY CENTER: • Overall attendance for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center was 2,817 19�o Increase from November 2009. • Youth Garden- The garden continues to grow with many tasty trea conjunction with our Healthy Cooking class that is offered at the cent • Healthy Cooking for Kids - The children learned to make a pilgrim s� meals prepared were raisin and carrot salad and turkey burgers on muffin. • Upcoming Events o Kwanzaa at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center on December 30th 4:00 pm. o Sean Battle on a Day of Caring event, January 17tr�. • Donations - The center received the following donation assistan month of November: o Bikes (20) $40C Total Donations: $40C • Total Attendance: 2,817 SILVER CREEK COMMUNITY CENTER/SAUNDERS MULTI-USE FACILITY: • Silver Creek Community Center o There were a total of two(2) rentals for the month of Noverr attendance for Silver Creek Community Center was 930 whic' rentals, classes and the After School Program. o Silver Creek After School Program - The theme for the month of was "What Are You Thankful For". Each youth made a paper created their own Thanksgiving dinner with a list of things thankful for to present to their parents. • Saunders Recreational Facility o The facility was rented a total of two (2) times for the Specic and once for the Derby Revolution in November. o Total attendance for the Saunders Recreational Facility was total of $980 in revenue generated. o Indoor Soccer League - The winter soccer league program k seventeen (17) adult teams registered. The area was pressured washed, cleaned thor� additional trash cans provided. • Hunter Irrigation allowed us to install and temporarily use an Commercial Controller (ACC), at Wayside Park.
