• As I have indicated previously, AB 26 (the redevelopment killer bill) is c
law with multiple hurdles and potential obstacles. Every time we belie�
on top of it, a new ruling comes out from the State Department of I
League of Cities comes out with a revised legal analysis - things are IitE
daily! Most recently, the Governor has come out with a very unfrie
revision to the law which would make decisions of the Department �
subject to appeal and would capture all housing cash among othe
changes. On what will hopefully be a more positive note the Oversigr

• The City played host to the Amgen Tour of California on Thursday, as
race's only individual time trial. The event was a success, with thousanc
lining the course near Bakersfield College. It was the second time the C
the event, the first being a stage finish in 2010. The success of the even

staff works to ensure many facets of the event go off without a hitch -

Bakersfield and Kern County Homelessness Prevention and Rapid
Program (HPRP) Receives National Recognition
On May 17t", Congress was briefed in Washington D.C. about the success around tl
rapidly re-housing the homeless through the American Recovery and Reinve:
Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPPRP). BakersfiE
County housed over 500 families and the new program contributed to a 12% reduc
homelessness between 2009 and 2011 despite persistent double digit unemployr
Bakersfield's success story along with six other communities will be showca
Congress to provide at least $2.2 billion for the McKinney Vento Homeless Assist
Program in Fiscal Year 2013, so that rapid re-housing programs can continue to se

o The League of Dreams held a special Grand Opening Celebration on S�

o The Spring League ended on Thursday, April 26th with each team receiv

o Pee Wee T-Ball and T-Ball League
o A Clinic for both leagues was held on Saturday, April 14t" at Silver Creek

• Overall attendance for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center was 5,921 which i�

PARKS:
• Centennial Park's off leash area was closed due to standing water as tl
pump had been removed by Street's staff. The anticipated re-opening d�

• On April 25-26t", staff cleaned the median islands south of highway 58 or
Avenue. These are asphalt only medians sprayed the week prior for we
