2012 was the year of sustainability fo . Now more than a year into
SMG I.M.P.A.C.T. program we are seeing extremely positive results. This past year alone, we hav
composted approximately 100,OOOIbs of waste. That means 100,OOOIbs of material has been repurp
sent to the local landfill. We produced approximately $90,000 dollars in savings from the retrofit
lighting fixtures. It literally pays to go green. Next year we plan on replacing over 500 water fixtures tf
complex to reduce our overall water consumption. We also have two more major lighting retrofits queu
to go when funding is available.
r the Operations Department
CIP funding for 2012-2013 has been approved and the following have been approved and completed:
• Arena Chair Replacement
• Arena Subfloor Replacement
• Convention Center Table Replacement
• Table Skirting Purchase
• Tradeshow Drape Purchase
• Hard Surface Cleaner
• Vacuum Replacement
• Arena Loading Dock Security Gates (Planning Stage)
• Dressing Floor Replacement (Planning Stage)
The Operations staff understands that citizens in the community with special needs require assistan
meaningful employment. We created a very special opportunity for Daryn Embry, a local man who has
Syndrome. Daryn owns Homerun Vending, a small vending machine company he operates in busines:
town. Through our partnership with Daryn, he acquired two large vending machines for our facility usin
money. The Rabobank Arena is now Daryn's flagship facility. Mayor Harvey Hall and other dignitares i
community were on hand at the ribbon cutting ceremony shown by the photo below. There were not m
in the room as people spoke about Daryn and his desire for business success. Our partnership with Hc
Vending also provides a 10% share of revenue with SMG Bakersfield. The previous vending machine c
not providing any revenue other than maintaining low costs for the facility employees who use them.
