1. GENERAL:
CONTRACTOR WILL FURNISH ALL MATERIALS, TOOLS, LABOR, EQUIPMENT AND
SUPERVISION NECESSARY TO COMPLETE INSTALLATION.
2. PVC PIPE INSTALLATION:
MATERIALS: PIPE AND FITTINGS SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CURRENT
ASTM SPECIFICATION D -3034 FOR SDR35. PIPE AND FITTINGS SHALL BE
HOMOGENEOUS THROUGHOUT AND FREE FROM CRACKS, HOLES, FOREIGN INCLUSIONS
OR OTHER INJURIOUS DEFECTS. FITTINGS SHALL BE INJECTION MOLDED AND
SHALL BE INSTALLED INLINE ON NEW PIPELINES; CUT IN FITTINGS ARE NOT
PERMITTED.
JOINTS: USE ONLY ELASTOMETRIC GASKET JOINTS. THE ASSEMBLY OF JOINTS
SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION. WHERE
PVC PIPE CONNECTS TO VCP PIPE, USE COUPLINGS APPROVED BY THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD.
INSTALLATION: PIPE AND FITTINGS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE CURRENT ASTM SPECIFICATION D -2321. ONLY CLASS 1, 11 AND III
EMBEDMENT MATERIALS WILL BE CONSIDERED SUITABLE.
3. SYSTEM TESTING:
A PRESSURE TEST AND MANDRELL TEST SHALL BE PERFORMED ON INSTALLED PIPE
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD DESIGN MANUAL CHAPTER 1.3 AND
THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE MANUFACTURER.
4. FOR P.V.C. WYE FITTINGS SHALL BE INJECTION MOLDED INLINE FOR ALL LATERAL
CONNECTIONS AND BE ROTATED A MINIMUM OF 23 DEGREES ABOVE THE HORIZONTAL
PLANE RUNNING THROUGH THE CENTERLINE OF THE MAIN.
5. ALL SEWER STUBS SHALL BE CLOSED WITH A STANDARD PLASTIC PLUG, SOLVENT WELDED.
6. ALL MANHOLES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWINGS SW -4, SW -5, AND SECTION 70 -1.02H
OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA,
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, CURRENT EDITION. ALL CLEANOUTS SHALL BE
CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WiTH THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWING
SW -6.
7. BACKFILL AND COMPACTION OF TRENCHES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWING ST -22 EXCEPT AS NOTED ON PLANS.
8. COMPACTION TESTS WILL BE THE SUBDIVIDERS RESPONSIBILITY. THE NUMBER
AND LOCATIONS OF THE TESTS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
9. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS (CURB, GUTTER, SIDEWALK, CROSS GUTTER, FENCING
ETC.) THAT ARE REMOVED, DAMAGED OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE REPAIRED OR
REPLACED AS DIRECTED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
10. ALL EXISTING PAVING AND SURFACING REMOVED, DAMAGED OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE
REPLACED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWING SW -3,
EXCEPT AS NOTED ON PLANS.
11. ALL LATERALS SHALL BE 4" IN DIAMETER, EXCEPT AS NOTED ON PLANS, AND EXTENDED
4' BEYOND R/W LiNE.
12. SURFACE MARKERS FOR SEWER LATERALS SHALL BE INSTALLED AT THE PROPERTY
LINE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CiTY OF BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWING SW -1.
13. WATER JETTING AND FLOODING SHALL NOT BE USED FOR BACKFILL COMPACTION
FOR FLEXIBLE PiPE.
14. MANHOLES SHALL BE TYPE "A" FOR PIPES UNDER 48" IN DIAMETER AND TYPE "B"
FOR PIPES 48" IN DIAMETER OR LARGER, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.
15. UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT (USA) SHALL BE NOTIFIED AT LEAST 2 WORKING
DAYS BEFORE CONSTRUCTION. TELEPHONE 1- 800 -642 -2444.
16. PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION A 24 HOUR NOTICE TO
THE CITY CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION SECTION IS REQUIIRED FOR INSPECTION AND
TESTING. TELEPHONE 326 -3049.
17. SEWER LATERALS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 2.25' DEEP AT PROPERTY LINE AND
A MINIMUM OF 2.50' DEEP AND 7.00' MAXIMUM AT FLOWLINE.
18. VIDEO INSPECTION:
PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE ALL SEWER LINES SHALL BE INSPECTED WITH VIDEO EQUIPMENT
DESIGNED FOR THE PURPOSE. THE TELEVISION CAMERA SHALL HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF ROTATING
360', IN ORDER TO VIEW & RECORD THE TOP AND SIDES OF THE PIPE, AS REQUIRED. THE VIDEO
INSPECTION SHALL BE WITNESSED BY THE CITY'S CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR, WHO WILL ALSO INITIAL
AND DATE THE "CHAIN OF CUSTODY" FORM. THE SUBDIVIDER SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE CITY OF
ANY PIPELINE LOCATIONS REVEALED TO BE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS. A RECORDED
VIDEO CASSETTE, THE COMPLETED "CHAIN OF CUSTODY" FORM AND A WRITTEN LOG WHICH INCLUDES
THE STATIONING, BASED ON THE STATIONING OF THE APPROVED PLANS, OF ALL CON ECTED LATERALS)
OF THE INSPECTION SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR VIEWING, AND SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER
PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE. AFTER ACCEPTANCE, THE VIDEO CASSETTE SHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE CITY.
19. AN OPEN STREET PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
FOR ANY WORK PERFORMED WITHIN EXISTING ACCEPTED STREET RIGHT -OF -WAY. UNLESS SECURED BY A
SUBDIVISION AGREEMENT, SECURITY BASED ON AN APPROVED ENGINEER'S ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK
PERFORMED WITHIN THE RIGHT -OF -WAY AND INSURANCE AS REQUIRED SHALL BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO
ISSUANCE OF A BUILDING PERMIT.
20. CLASS 1 BEDDING AND EMBANKMENT IS REQUIRED WITHIN THE PiPE ZONE FOR ALL PVC SEWER PIPE.
21. REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE SHALL BE CLASS III WITH RUBBER GASKET JOINTS PER A.S.T.M. C 76 & C 443 .
GENERAL NOTES
1. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT HE SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE
RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF
CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS AND
PROPERTY; THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT
BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS, AND THAT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE ENGINEER HARMLESS
FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH
THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT, EXCEPTING FOR THE
LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER OR THE
ENGINEER.
2. NO PIPELINE SHALL BE LAID WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL BY THE ENGINEER.
3. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD STDS.
4. ALL STATIONING IS ALONG THE CENTERLINE OF STREET. ALL ELEVATIONS
ARE BASED ON U.S.G.S. DATUM.
5. THE STAKING AND MARKING OF THE PROJECT SHALL BE DONE ONCE BY
THE OWNER AND ALL RESTAKING OR REMARKING SHALL BE AT THE EXPENSE
OF THE CONTRACTOR.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE ENGINEER WITH "AS- BUILT"
PLANS UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK.
7. EXISTING UNDERGROUND LINES HAVE BEEN SHOWN ON THIS PLAN
ACCORDING TO AVAILABLE RECORDS. THE ENGINEER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE
FOR POSSIBLE ERRORS OR OMISSIONS AND IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S
RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY LINES IN THE FIELD PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION.
SEC. 1. 3.1 CLEANING
PRIOR TO THE ACCEPTANCE OF ANY SEWER LINE BY THE CITY, THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL , CLEAN ALL LINES WITH A WAYNE -TYPE SEWER CLEANING BALL UNDER
HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE. ANY STOPPAGE, DIRT OR FOREIGN MATTER SHALL
BE REMOVED FROM THE LINES. ALL CLEANING AND TESTING OF SEWER LINES
SHALL TAKE PLACE AFTER ALL CONSTRUCTION WORK IS COMPLETED AND ANY
DAMAGE TO THE STSTEM DURING FINAL PAVING AND CLEANUP WILL BE CORRECTED
BEFORE APPROVAL.
SEC. 1.3.2 TESTING
1.3.2.1 MANDREL TEST OF PVC PIPE
FOLLOWING THE PLACEMENT AND DENSIFICATION OF BACKFILL AND PRIOR TO THE
PLACING OF PERMANENT PAVEMENT, ALL MAINLINE PIPE SHALL BE CLEANED AND
THEN MANDRELLED TO MEASURE FOR OBSTRUCTIONS (DEFLECTIONS, JOINT OFFSETS
AND LATERAL PiPE INTRUSIONS). A RiGID MANDREL, WITH A CIRCULAR CROSS
SECTION CERTIFIED AS HAVING A DIAMETER CONFORMING TO THE TABLE BELOW,
SHALL BE PULLED THROUGH THE PiPE BY HAND. THE MINIMUM LENGTH OF THE
CIRCULAR PORTION OF THE MANDREL SHALL BE EQUAL TO THE NOMINAL DIAMETER
OF THE PIPE. THE MANDREL SHALL HAVE AN ODD NUMBER OF RIBS, NUMBERING
NO LESS THAN NINE (9), SPACED EVENLY AROUND THE MANDREL.
IF PIPE DOES NOT MEET MANDREL TEST, VIBRATORY MEANS OF CORRECTING IS
ALLOWED PROVIDED PIPE HAS NOT BEEN CRUSHED AND VIBRATORY METHOD WILL
NOT DISRUPT ADJACENT PROPERTY.

Backfdl material within the pipe zone shall be free of
deleterious material and shall have a Sand Equivalent of not
less than 20 and shall conform to the following grading:

This backfr7l material shall be placed in not to exceed one
foot (1.0' loose)(0,3m) layers, simultaneously on each side of the
pipe in such a manner as not to damage or disturb the pipe on
its alignment and grade. Each layer shall be thoroughly comp-
acted by mechanical tamping. Backfrll material shall be
properly compacted to springline prior to proceeding.
2. Backfill for flexible pipe.
Pipe and nrttings shall be installed in accordance with the
current ASTM Teci6cation D -2321. Only Class l and 11
embedment materials within the pipe zone will be considered
suitable. Wthin the pipe zone, water flooding and jetting shall
not be used for backlil compaction for flexible pipe. The
bedding and haunching shall be hand placed to the . Spring line
of the pipe and properly compacted. For sewer mains, Class 1
bedding is required for bedding and haunching. Care shall be
taken not to "didocate the pipe. The remaining backfill in the
pipe zone Mull be hand placed and compacted in lifts not to
exceed 6.0" (0.15m) thickness Backh7l material shall be
properly compacted to springline prior to proceeding.
3. BackRll material above the pipe zone shall be free
of deleterious material and lumps or stones exceeding
4.0' (75mm) in greatest dimension and shall be
placed in not to exceed one foot (1.0' loose) (03m)
layers and each layer shall be thoroughly compacted
by mechanical tamping.

4. Testing of backfill materials shall be in accordance with the
tests listed in Section 6 -3.01 of the Standard Specifications,
(or ASTM D1557, Method 'C °) for trench width greater than LO' (0.3m)
If trench width is less than 1.0'(0.3n), backfril with 2 sack slurry.
5 Compaction tests will be required and shall be the respons-
ibility of the Developer / Subdivider / Contractor. The number
and location of the tests shall be determined by the City
Engineer: The tests Mull be in accordance with the tests
listed in Section 6 -3.01 of the Standard Specifications, (or
ASTM D1557, Method 1C7.
6 Each layer of backRl material shall meet the compaction,
sand equivalent and gradation requirements before the next
layer is placed.
