RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PLANNING
EFFORTS FOR THE 2016 BAKERSFIELD
MARATHON EVENT.
WHEREAS, special events provide an opportunity to favorably promote the
City and generate economic activity; and
WHEREAS, in January 2016, the Active Bakersfield Alliance submitted a
special event application to hold a marathon, half- marathon, half- marathon
relay, 5K fun run and walk and a children's marathon within the City of
Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, the event organizer is proposing to hold these events in
November 2016; and
WHEREAS, the planning, coordination and execution of such events
require significant time and resources; and
WHEREAS, the event organizer has committed to pay all applicable costs
incurred by the City related to facilitating the events; and
WHEREAS, City staff and the event organizer will continue to meet to
discuss all aspects to plan for the event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct.
2. The City Council hereby confirms its support for the planning efforts for the
Bakersfield Marathon and associated events.
