A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BAKERSFIELD
RECREATION AND PARKS DIRECTOR TO
SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR THE CALIFORNIA
URBAN RIVERS GRANT (PROPOSITION 1) AND
ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA.
RECITALS
WHEREAS, the purpose of the California Urban Rivers Grant is to fund projects
that enhance multi- benefit watersheds and urban rivers within urban waters that
increase regional and local water self- sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, the Recreation and Parks Department can meet two of the five
statutory conditions fuses soils, plants, and natural processes to treat runoff and
increase regional and local resiliency and adaptability to climate change) and;
WHEREAS, the Recreation and Parks and Public Works Department -have a
proposed project that can be used to meet the statutory conditions; and
WHEREAS, the State of California requires a resolution be submitted with the
grant application to authorize City staff to submit a proposal for the grant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield, if selected, will enter into an agreement with
the California National Resources Agency to carry out the proposed project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
Approves the filing of an application to the California Natural
Resources Agency to obtain a California Urban Rivers Grant pursuant
to Proposition 1: The Wafer Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure
Improvement Act of 2014.
2. Authorizes the City to enter into an agreement to receive a grant for
converting asphalt medians and dirt shoulders into streetscapes with
drought tolerant vegetation.
3. Authorizes the Recreation and Parks Director to prepare the necessary
data, conduct investigations, file such application, and execute a
grant agreement and any amendments thereto, with the State of

4. Certifies that the above recitals are true and correct and are
incorporated herein by reference.
