Re: 2nd Quarter 2011 Groundwater Monitoring Report for Bernard &
Sons, Inc. located at 4011 Jewett Ave.
Dear Mr. Ulmer,
This office has reviewed the 2nd quarter groundwater monitoring report
submitted by HerSchy Environmental Incorporated dated July 5, 2011 and at
this time we are not in concurrence with the recommendations to grant a low
risk closure. While the amount of total percentage of hydrocarbons for diesel
(TPH -d) in the water samples has decreased, there is still one sample that is
three time the reportable limit. The current laboratory analytical results also
indicate the presents of two not seen before contaminates. These two
contaminates are toluene ranging from 1.9 to 2.4 ug /L and xylene ranging
from 2.2 to 2.6 ug /L. HerSchy Environmental is attributing this contamination
to tubing used during the sampling event.
This office would request additional sampling to confirm that this new
contamination is the results of HerSchy Environmental sampling techniques
rather than the introduction of a new contaminate. This additional sampling
will also aid in the determination of a trend that the TPH -d is declining and
thereby making a decision of a low risk closure possible.
As was noted in the previous letter dated October 13, 2010, all reports must
be up- loaded into "GeoTracker ", the case number is T10000002582 prior to
any closure being approved.
If you have any additional questions, please call me at (661) 326 -3684.
Sincerely,
Craig Perkins REA
