WELCOME by Harvey L. Hall - Mayor, City of Bakersfield. 2. INVOCATION by Monsignor Craig F. Harrison, V.F. - St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. 3. PRESENTATION OF COLORS by South High School, Army Junior R.O.T.C., Instructor Greg Underwood, Sergeant First Class (Retired) US Army. 4, PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE by Ueutenant Jordan Goh, Army National Guard. 5. NATIONAL ANTHEM by Lauren Kaff - 4th grade student, Reagan Elementary. 6. RECOGNITION OF SPECIAL GUESTS by Harvey L. Hall Mayor, City of Bakersfield Mayor Hall acknowledged the following special guests in attendance at the ceremony: Kern County District Attorney Lisa Green; Past Kern County District 1 Supervisor Jon McQuiston; Bakersfield College President Sonya Christian; Past Kern County Administrative Officer John Nilon; Past Mayor Mary K. Shell; Past Councilmember Sue Benham; California State University Bakersfield President Dr. Horace Mitchell; Assembly Member Shannon Grove; President and CEO of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Nick Ortiz and Past Councllmember Russell Johnson. PRESENTATIONS ACTION TAKEN Mayor Hall stated it has been wonderful serving the City of Bakersfield as Mayor for 16years; he has carried a motto with him from day one, "Make every day better than the day before to make Bakersfield the best city In America "; he is honored to have awarded 297 high school scholarships with his Mayor salary, totaling $253,000; gave recognition to 12,505 citizens of Bakersfield; served with 17 Councilmembers; served 5,846 days and 362 Council meetings, only missing 6 Council Meetings in 16 years; recognized his Administrative Assistant Turner and Administrative Assistant Heather Pruitt for being dedicated employees; and wished good luck and prosperity to Mayor -elect Goh. a. CERTIFICATION OF ELECTION AND ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE -KAREN K. GOH by Roberta Gafford, CMC - Retired City Clerk 9. PRESENTATION OF GAVEL Vice -Mayor Smith presented Past Mayor Harvey L. Hall with the gavel he has used over the past 16 years. Past Mayor Harvey L. Hall presented the Mayor's gavel to Mayor Karen Goh. Mayor Goh made comments and presented Past Mayor Harvey L. Hall with a Key to the City with the following inscription: " In recognition of your tenure as the City of Bakersfield's Longest Serving Mayor, January 2, 2001- January 3, 2017, In Recognition of your profound commitment to making this City a better place to live for each and every resident, and in recognition of the positive and lasting impact you have made on the quality of life in the City of Bakersfield." 10. MAYOR'S ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Mayor Goh thanked everyone for their vote and confidence in her ability to serve as Mayor; recognized members of her family in attendance at the ceremony: her father, Harry Goh; brother, David; sister -in -law, Janelle; nephews, Jordon and Hunter; niece Annalise; and cousins, Nesi and Paul Sheldon.
