The 16th Annual Great American Cleanup is in Bakersfield this Saturday, April 22, 2017 for Earth Day. This Keep
Bakersfield Beautiful (KBB) main event is part of the year round Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Great American
Cleanup™. Locally, more than 2,000 volunteers will clean up litter and illegal dumps, spruce up community
gardens, and other community service projects in approximately 80 locations in Bakersfield.
Most volunteers will do their community service project from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. Afterward at Yokuts Park,
volunteers get together with Mayor Karen Goh, other elected officials, and sponsors to celebrate this great day of
coming together as a community to keep Bakersfield beautiful. Festivities include a free barbecue picnic, games,
ceremony, and the Greater Bakersfield Green Expo (GBGE). The ceremony recognizes 6 KBB Outstanding
Volunteer of the Year Award recipients and others that are part of the crew with Keep Bakersfield Beautiful. The
2017 recipients are former Mayor Harvey L. Hall, Hal Bopp, Sherri Aud, South High School National Honor Society,
Starbucks, and World Mission Society Church of God. The event ends at 1:00 p.m. The GBGE is a green vendor
