3. AGENDA SUMMARY REPORT
The Commission adopted the March 6, 2017 report
4. NEW BUSINESS
A. Annual Youth Conference
Katie Collins, Luke Garcia, and Marisa Edmonston presented their recommendations for
the Youth Conference.
Alejandro Ruiz stated that one activity could be a tour of downtown Bakersfield. Ruiz also
thought a shorter agenda would be more manageable and appropriate since this is the
first conference that included a keynote speaker and community project.
Caleb Blaschke suggested light refreshments and utilizing a City venue. He also stated
that staff will review the Commission’s recommendations and return at the May meeting
with a draft agenda for the Youth Conference that incorporates the Commissions ideas.
5. COMMISSION COMMENTS
- Katie Collins would like an update regarding on whether or not to implement a
program here in Bakersfield similar to Sacramento, where leftover food from schools is
given to the homeless.
- Caleb Blaschke, Management Assistant asked the Seniors to inform him if they are leaving
this summer so recruitment can begin for their replacements.
- Elizabeth Reyes commented that Kiara Frink has resigned from the Commission and Marisa
Edmonson is now the acting Commissioner for Ward 2.
