PRIOR TO GENERAL SITE GRADING, EXISTING VEGETATION, SURFACE OBSTRUCTIONS AND ANY
DEBRIS SHOULD BE STRIPPED AND DISPOSED OF OUTSIDE THE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS. WE
ESTIMATE THE DEPTH OF STRIPPING TO BE APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 3 INCHES. STRIPPED TOPSOIL,
LESS ANY DEBRIS, MAY BE STOCKPILED AND REUSED FOR LANDSCAPE PURPOSES; HOWEVER, THIS
MATERIAL SHOULD NOT BE INCORPORATED INTO ENGINEERED FILL, UNLESS IT IS POSSIBLE TO
SUFFICIENTLY MIX MATERIAL TO PRODUCE AN ORGANIC CONTENT LESS 0.1 PERCENT BY WEIGHT.
EXISTING UTILITIES, WELLS, AND SUBSURFACE OBSTRUCTIONS:
DURING SITE DEMOLITION AND PRIOR TO ACTUAL SITE GRADING, A REASONABLE SEARCH SHOULD
BE CONDUCTED TO LOCATE ANY ABANDONED UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES (E,G., IRRIGATION
LINES), OR EXISTING U11LMES WHICH MAY BE PRESENT WITHIN THE AREA OF CONSTRUCTION.
THESE OBSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE PROPERLY ABANDONED ACCORDING TO REGULATORY
REQUIREMENT AND/OR REMOVED FROM THE PROJECT AREA. IF ANY AREAS OR POCKETS OF SOFT
OR SATURATED SOILS, VOID SPACES MADE BY BURROWING ANIMALS OR SOIL DISTURBED BY
AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES ARE ENCOUNTERED, THEY SHOULD BE OVER -EXCAVATED TO FIRM
APPROVED NATIVE MATERIAL AND REPLACED AS ENGINEERED FILL EXCAVATIONS FOR REMOVAL OF
THE ABOVE ITEMS SHOULD BE DISH -SHAPED (WITH SIDES SLOPED 1:3, VERTICAL TO HORIZONTAL
OR FLATTER) AND BACKFILLED WITH ENGINEERED FILL. 'EXISTING WELLS WHICH MIGHT BE
ASSOCIATED WITH PREVIOUS AGRICULTURAL USAGE OR DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE PROPERLY
ABANDONED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE KERN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL
HEALTH DEPARTMENT,
OVEREXCAVATION AND COMPACTION:
NATIVE SOIL SHOULD BE CUT TO A MINIMUM OF 18 -INCHES BELOW ORIGINAL GRADE PER THE SOIL
INVESTIGATION. FILL NECESSARY TO BRING THE SITE TO GRADE SHOULD BE PLACED IN THIN UNIFORM
LIFTS AT OR NEAR OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT AND COMPACTED TO A MINIMUM OF 90% OF THE
MAXIMUM DRY DENS11Y AS DETERMINED BY ASTM D 1557. IN AREAS WHERE CUTS EXCEED 2 FEET
BELOW EXISTING GROUND, COMPACTION OF NEAR SURFACE SOILS SHALL CONSIST OF THE TOP 1 FOOT
OF EXPOSED SOIL.
CUT LOTS ARE SUBJECT TO REVIEW, BASED ON THE FINDINGS OF THE SOILS ENGINEER,
OVEREXCAVATION AND RECOMPACTION OF CUT LOTS TO PRODUCE A UNIFORM BUILDING PAD MAY
BE REQUIRED. WITHIN PAVEMENT AREAS THE SUBGRADE SHALL BE COMPACTED TO AT LEAST 95
PERCENT RELATIVE COMPACTION TO A DEPTH OF 12 INCHES, OR AS REQUIRED BY THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD. THIS SUBGRADE COMPACTION SHOULD BE PERFORMED AFTER UTILITY INSTALLATION
AND JUST PRIOR TO PLACING THE PAVEMENT SECTIONS. COMPACTION TEST SHALL CONFORM TO
ASTM TEST METHOD D1557, METHOD A .
